Traumatic experiences can disrupt the integration of these foundational sensory systems, contributing to difficulties with arousal regulation, body awareness, emotion regulation, and interpersonal connection. By targeting sensory pathways in a developmentally informed manner, interventions can help restore neural integration, strengthen self-regulation, and promote restoration of the self after trauma
